Sarah Rose Nunes is a Portuguese jazz vocalist and pianist. Daughter of a Madeiran-Portuguese immigrant raised in West Hartford, CT, Sarah grew up listening to Portuguese and Brazilian styles of music such as fado, bossa nova, bãiao-forró, and Madeiran folk music.
Starting piano at the age of four, Sarah Rose went on to play piano in the Hall High Jazz Band and Combo from 2007-2011, culminating in an Honorary Mention for Piano in the national Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition in 2011. After completing a Liberal Arts degree at Oberlin College in 2015, Sarah Rose returned to Hartford to perform Bossa Nova classics in venues throughout Connecticut. Her repertoire also includes jazz standards from the Great American songbook, ballads, rock, R&B and her own compositions.
Sarah Rose’s voice combines the dynamism and passion of Elis Regina with the sweetness of Astrud Gilberto, complementing the rhythmic, lilting patterns of Bossa Nova. Adding a new twist to the songbooks of the beloved and incredible Jobim, Costa, de Morães, and more, Sarah Rose brings new life to Brazil’s venerable classics.
